Contemplations of the Wildly Rooted
Once upon a time there was a child who was lost in the woods. The trees kept her company and the wolves watched her soul. As the child grew so did the world around her, but they could not keep her forever, because she was destined to explore, leaving both the trees and the wolves behind. As she explored she saw others of her kind and had to know what it would be like to be with them. She found them and thought “finally I fit in.” Only to realize that she was always meant for the trees and the wolves. But the journey was not as straightforward as one would think it should be. She was drawn back to the woods to be home with those who raised her. She thought everything is as it should be when surrounded by nature embraced by the trees and wolves.

Something draws me in when surrounded by those trees, but the wolves hold my spirit, both majestic and fierce. May we all find our roots and follow that nature back to who we truly are. There are days I howl at the moon and think why am I like this, but it is because I forgot where I came from. There are days I find the peace of a tree and it feels like I have come home, steady as can be. Why can’t I remember who raised me? Was it not the whisper of trees and the howl of the wolf. I am both grounded, but wild and free if only I can remember all I have to be is me.
